Deborah Segun

Deborah Segun (b. 1994, Lagos, Nigeria) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores themes of identity, femininity, and self-reflection through a distinctive blend of abstraction and cubism. She earned her degree in Fashion Design from the Polimoda Institute of Fashion Design and Marketing in Florence, Italy, in 2017. During her studies, Segun began translating her artistic expressions into conceptual and sculptural wearable pieces, laying the foundation for her current visual language.

Segun's paintings are characterized by fragmented and exaggerated forms that depict the female figure in states of contemplation or repose. Her work often exaggerates the feminine silhouette, serving as a commentary on the representation of women in art history and the omission of Black women therein. Through her art, she delves into personal and collective experiences of womanhood, aiming to create a sense of simplicity and calmness amidst complexity.

Segun has exhibited internationally, with solo shows including "A Moment to Myself" at Saatchi Gallery in London (2024), "Letting Yourself Be" at The Breeder Gallery in Athens (2024), and "The Little Things I Need to Make Me Whole" at ADA \ contemporary art gallery in Accra (2022). Her work has also been featured in group exhibitions such as "So Close Yet So Far" at Bode Gallery in Berlin (2023).
